Nissan Land Glider

The 3.1M-Long, electrically powered Land Glider is described by Nissan's concept design director as "an exploratory activity, looking five to 10 years ahead".

The company also says that the tilting four-wheeler was inspired by the factthat "more than 50 percent of the world's population will be living in big cities in the near future".

The upshot is that Nissan designers latched on to motorbikes as "a base to start the design process for a personal city-commuting concept". It's designed to tilt by up to 17 degrees, and the body leans via computer control, leaving the driver to just steer.

Nissan insiders say that a more feasible, non-tilting version of the car could be seen next year. In the US, tandem concepts - apparently being explored by many car makers - are known as 'lane splitters' because one motorway lane could accommodate two tandems.
